Just like Microsoft’s Notepad application, Gammadyne’s DocPad puts text editing functionality at your disposal. Similar as they may be, these two applications are not the same – DocPad has much more to offer. It is a free, easy to use, and feature-rich application, a properly good alternative to Notepad.

DocPad will work on a PC powered by any Windows edition from Windows 2000 and XP up to Windows 7 and 8. To get the application to work on a Windows-powered PC, you must complete a simple installation procedure: download and run an executable, follow the instructions presented by a setup wizard.

The interface is just what you would expect from a text editor: a large central panel that presents the text you’re working on, a toolbar and a File Menu at the top that you can use to access all the features and functions DocPad has to offer. This simple interface provides support for themes; there are multiple themes you can use to change how DocPad looks.

There is a lot you can do with DocPad: create a new text document or open an existing one, import HTML as text, print documents, convert case, convert encoding, text-to-voice, spell-check, calculator, calendar, randomize paragraphs, search, search and replace, record macros, manage macros, and more. The nice thing is that there are lots of features, functions, and settings to go through. The even nicer thing is that you get them all for free.

If you like DocPad, if you get value from this text editor, consider making a donation to support its development.

DocPad is a complete package: it has a customizable interface, it is very easy to use, it puts a lot of features and functions at your disposal, and it is offered for the great price of free. DocPad is just a properly good text editor.

Pros

DocPad will work on a PC powered by any Windows edition from Windows 2000 and XP up to Windows 7 and 8. The interface has a familiar layout and provides support for themes. Lots of features, functions, and settings can be accessed very easily. DocPad is free software (consider making a donation).

Cons

None that I could think of.
